It's been 65 years. 65 years since the government forced us underground. Threats of bombs, nuclear holocausts, and diseases were running ramped through America. Fear was all we knew. It's been 65 years since we've seen the sun. 65 years since we smelt fresh air. This is the life we always knew. Not that the compound was bad, there was many of them, as far as we knew every person on the planet lived this way, stuck within a concrete cylinder 10 feet underground. Each compound had approximately 20 floors with several families. Each family ate at the same time, exercised regularly, and went through basic rehabilitation training every month. Every family was to be nice and pleasant with each other and some compounds were connected by a metallic train that ran between compounds that used to once be called states. People worked on the compounds and had jobs to keep them busy, cooking, cleaning, and maintenance. Not everyone made it to the compounds of course. 2020 marked the time that the elders called "The Dark". There was a sense that every country had bombs, and every country wanted ours eliminated. There would be broadcasts everywhere about sickness and crime rates on the rise. The elders said they saw so much violence in their youth, riots proclaiming like the government was fear mongering and scaring it's people into hiding and terror. The government called for a mass underground drill in 2030 and the rich were allowed an apartment compound by giving up everything they own and move into a small apartment with their family. The government send happy uplifting messages with good news about the compounds every morning and supper time. Some times the messages talked about health issues, food, peoples personal lives. But never did they mention what it looked like on the outside. OOC: My idea from the topic is to have a group of friends + one unknown shy character discover a way outside and discover a new world
To join!
-Please try and check the topic regularly if you won't be able to please surrender control of your character to someone else for a period of time or explain what your character is doing for that time.
-Post a link to your characters profiles
-you can have and are encouraged to have more then one character
-post the occupation of your character (A part time job is needed to live in the compound)
-State wether your character is in either compound A or B. A will be the main one that the group will live in but B can be where a few others live.
-Once one person posts this information the roleplay will begin.
-If you wish to join at any time please try to integrate your character in a creative way.

OOC: Alright we'll begin
BIC: "Good morning, good morning!" A male sing song voice managed to worm it's way into Jace's small apartment. Jace though disturbed by how unnaturally chipper Yuji was for such an early time. Everyone in the compound was just waking up and probably preparing their first meals.
Jace walked over to the door and opened it slightly. Yuji opened it the rest of the way and gave Jace a hug. "How are you handsome?" Yuji said with a wide smile. He place Jace in a head lock and lightly ruffled his hair.
Jace was considerably taller then Yuji, In fact Yuji was rather small. And even though everyone in the compound had to make the same mandatory amount of exercise Yuji never seemed to gain any muscle mass. Jace on the other hand was well sculpted and using his free time occasionally stayed at the gym and the pool a little longer then the compounds rules expected of a person.
"I want to get the good machines before the others are taken this time okay?" Yuji said with a smile. "Plus I think Nikita will be there as well." Yuji had a huge crush on Nikita, not for her looks or sexuality mind you but rather her fashion sense and how her skin and hair looked. "I don't understand how anyone using the the same shampoo as everyone else can have such luscious locks." Yuji said.
"We're going to work out, not stare at people." Jace said while putting on a plain white shirt. Everyone in the compound wore something similar. There was a very limited wardrobe. Jumpsuits of many colors, t shirts, jeans, or plain black pants, and for the women pencil skirts in many arrays of colors. And everyone had the same workout clothes, white tshirt or tank top with tight black shorts. Jace had packed his shorts in his bag the night before. Jace headed out the apartment door and looked it behind him and Yuji.
There were two apartments on each floor and were separated by a large spiral stair case. Everything echoed through those stair cases, every little voice and moan. The gym was on the bottom floor of building A, building B had a farm in their compound which was shared between the three compounds in the state. Everyone from the three compounds were vaguely familiar with each other, and a lot of the young people liked to stick together.
The gym had a wonderful scent of chlorine and cleaning products and was attended by Yuji's mom at the front desk. Yuji's mom was the gym enforcer. "Clocking in your 45 this early boys?" Yuji's mother had quite a think Japanese accent but Yuji's father was a white man who, with his own father, owned a chain of car manufacturing factories. Yuji had a big family living in one small apartment and rumor was that soon Yuji's elder brother was getting his own compound.
"They have the bottom floors of compound D finished you know." Yuji headed towards the locker rooms using a small key card to unlock a locker and a shower stall. " I heard even the train way is finished and the new bottom floor is going to be, get this, a theatre! I've only heard about that kind of thing in the movies I mean what does one of those even look like right?" Yuji sounded very excited as he hopped into the shower. Yuji continued to talk even though Jace could no longer hear him very well. The sound of the hot water hitting the tile was enough to muffle Yuji's obnoxious voice.
"My brother's apartment will be on the third floor, and I hear that these apartments are bigger and can hold three apartments. I'm so jealous. At this rate we won't have our own apartments until we're elders... or until our parents die." Yuji stepped out of the shower and toweled off and changed into his workout attire. " I want to work at that theater and maybe even Nikita will get to sing... She said her mother can to yeah know."
Jace and Yuji headed into the main gym and headed for a press machine. The good thing about the gym compound rules was it didn't matter what machine you worked on. They had talked about getting people to become personal trainers to make sure you had a balanced work out but there possibly wasn't enough interest in the job.

"Mom!" Nikita Yelled down the hall way to her mother. "Im going to get my workout in early this morning, Ill be home in a little bit" she continued as she headed out the door. Nikita had to work later that day and knew she wouldn't feel like going for a work out afterwards so she decided to get it done and over with early in the morning.
Nikita headed down to the bottom of building A towards the gym while humming to the sound of her mp3 player. Nikita loved listening to music, she loved to write music, sing music, anything to do with music Nikita always had an itch for. Her mp3 player was always at her side.
As Nikita entered the gym she took one ear bud out of her ear for a brief moment to say hello to Mrs. Nokawa. Nikita then headed over to the change rooms to change into her workout clothes. Nikita hated having to wear the same clothes as everyone else , she hated the tight white tank top and tight black shorts, they were so boring so plain, but she knew there was nothing she could do about it and continued to change into them anyways, she then threw her long luscious locks into a pony tail and went out to the main part of the gym. As she walked threw the gym she noticed Yuji and Jace on the press machines, she shot them a smile and continued on her way over to the treadmill. She always thought Yuji and Jace were so good looking. Once on the treadmill Nikita put her ear buds to her mp3 player back in and began her workout.

Yuji waved goodbye to Jace and skipped off happily after Nikita. "Nikki?" Yuji said while leaning against the wall on the left side of the treadmill. He then noticed the white chord running from Nikita's ears. "Uh..." Yuji then started to wave his arms and tugged out her ear buds. "oops..." Yuji shrugged. He reliased that was a big mistake. "My bad, listen, we're going to the gun range later for our monthly quota, wanna join?"
Instead of schooling there was survival quota's. History, math, and english. As well as skills such as cooking and hunting. Every resident was given a gun incase of rioters as well as a survival kit in every bunker that included emergency kits and food.

"Where're you headed today, kid?" his dad called out from the kitchen. Busking in the compounds was always difficult, but it was a way to get by. "I'll probably head over to the lower levels in D. It's like an obstacle course down there with all the exposed construction work." Sean grabbed an apple and headed for the door. "Really? How many people will be wandering around there?" Sean's dad was always focused on the profit, but it was a good way of keeping order. "I promise, I'll stay near the populated spots." Sean gestured toward his mother's study. "Look after her, yeah?" he asked, just like every other day. "Yeah." His dad replied, ritualistically, and smiled as Sean left the house. One of Sean's favourite ways of using his acrobatic skills was just going from one part of the compounds to the other. Dodging pedestrians, hopping fences, climbing, jumping, rolling, flipping, all with a big smile on his face as people saw him tumble through the air. Sean almost crashed into some attractive blonde girl as he arrived at the train station. She dropped her bag but Sean managed to cartwheel out of the way to avoid a collision. Oh that familiar look: extreme irritation, with just a hint of playful jealously. That was the look Sean got every day. After Sean got on the train he began to dread his destination. The Compound A exercise room. The mandatory exercises were the bane of Sean's existence. Muscle building, beefing up... It was nothing but a load of setbacks on the hard work he'd put into his current body type. He needed to be light and agile. Lifting weights would never help that. 'Oh well,' he thought to himself, 'depending on who's there I could just mess around in the acrobatics section until I can leave...' Sean took a stick of gum out of his pocket and chewed with a grin. |

Nikita looked at Yuji with a small look of discomfort, she was not very impressed with him taking out her ear buds but she decided to just let it go. "Well, it depends what time, I have to go to work in an hour for about three hours, so as long as its after that i'm totally down" Nikita said in a chipper voice. Nikita hated going down to the gun range by herself, she always had trouble bringing herself to use a gun, even if it was only a few times a month. Nikita would always jump at the chance to be able to go with someone else, that was one thing she hated doing alone.

Yuji winked at her in a silly non-seductive way. "You work on the dining level right? We'll pick you up there." Yuji clicked his fingers in a gun shape and skipped back off to Jace.
"We're going shooting tonight," Yuji said with a smile.
"Do you really think we'll ever need to use a gun Yuji?" Jace asked rather seriously.
"No, we're safe here, and probably everyone else is dead... thats what the monitors say anyways."
"Then why is there a need to practice if everyone is dead?" Jace was trying to get at one of his many conspiracy theories that he had locked away.
"Oh stop Jace," Yuji laughed and managed to put in a few reps with a light weight.

Nikita smiled as Yuji walked away from her , she continued to listen to her music for about another 20 minutes while she finished up on the treadmill she then left the gym and went on her way to work.
Nikita's loved working on the dining level, she loved being around people, and the fast pace atmosphere that always surrounded the coffee shop. She liked being busy and always having something to do. It stopped her from being able to think, think about what the world was like outside of the compound. Nikita has always been curious as to what was above ground level.
Once Nikita got to work she clocked her name in, and began her shift. "only three more hours" she thought to herself. Even though Nikita loved to be at work, she just couldn't keep her mind off Yuji, she was very excited to go to the gun range with him later that day.

After working up a good sweat the boys finished off their workout and headed to the change room. While Yuji changed Jace peered around the locker room spotting Sean.
"Hey," Jace tilted his head up slightly to say hello. Jace then turned continued down the row of lockers and headed for the showers.
The steam felt very good against Jace's sensitive skin and Jace couldnt help be but lost against the pounding water. Normally Jace would never care to ease drop however he overheard to men talking in the shower next to him.
"I think theyre running out of ways to scare the poor bastards."
"We have plenty of ideas there's no problem."
"But if I don't do my job do you think people will actually believe the stories?"
"They'll believe everything we tell them, that's our job as protectors."
"Your the boss Jack."
The conversation was off to Jace and he turnedd off his shower to get a better listen.
"Have you been up there Jack?"
"Peter don't be stupid no one has."
"Then how do you know it's fine."
"Listen Pete, I like you but this isnt the place to talk about the kinda stuff. All you need to do is your job. We have it good down here Peter, everything will be fine as long as we stay down here. Don't wanna mess up a good thing. So hows the wife?"
Jace tried to take in what he could of the conversation. He put the shower back on to rinse out the suds from his hair.

Nikita was just nearing the end of her shift at the donut diner, she went around the dining area and grabbed all the dishes and utensils that had been left behind by customers. She lightly placed them on a clearing trolley and went into the back where the sink was located. The good thing about where Nikita was working was she had been there for a long time, a few years actually. She was such a well liked employee that the manager would allow her to listen to her mp3 player at the end of her shift while she was cleaning up, this was because she no longer had to serve anyone and her wearing the mp3 player wouldn't affect her work. Well most of the time it wouldn't affect her work, except for today. As Nikita began to fill the sink with water she also started listening to her mp3 player, she then started to day dream, zone off into her own little world like she normally did when she was listening to music. Nikita started to think about Yuji and going to the firing range, how nervous she was when it came to using guns, but how excited she was to spend some time with Yuji. The sink began to get quite full but Nikita still wasn't paying much attention, she just continued loading dishes into the sink. Then all of a sudden Nikita felt extremely hot water hit her shoes. She jumped and let out a scream. She ran over to the tap and turned it off, then without thinking she reached her hand into the sink to pull out the plus so the water would drain and she severley burnt her hand, she screamed once again pulling her hand out of the water.
"Are you okay?! What happened in here?!" yelled the donut diner manager Molly. She ran over to Nikita and grabbed her wrist. "Oh my goodness your hand! You need to go see a doctor right away!"
"I'm fine really I am" Nikita said and she ran her hand under warm water to slowly bring her burn down to room temperature. She winced in pain as her manager continued to lecture her.
"Nikita if the burn doesn't get any better by tomorrow can you please go see a doctor?" she pleaded with her.
"Yes Molly I promise"
"Good now get out of here, take the next three days off so your hand has time to heal"
Nikita thanked her manager then grabbed some burn cream out of the first aid box and rubbed it on her hand. She then looked up at the clock and realized that she still had another 20 minutes until Yuji was supposed to show up so she decided to go sit out front of the coffee shop with her mp3 player on and wait.

When Sean arrived at the exercise room he noticed that Yuji was doing some weightlifting. Sean wandered over to the change room and got into his exercise clothes. When he got to the trampoline and put his bag down he saw that someone was watching him. Always glad to have an audience Sean got right to work, showing off a lot of his favourite tricks. The sound of the air whistling past his ears as he twirled through the air was one of his favourite sounds, and Sean got lost in his own actions again. By the time he finished his string of flips and tumbles he had worked up a good sweat and his bystander had an enormous grin. Sean did a small flip off the trampoline and grabbed a piece of paper out of his bag. It was his card, with his phone number, compound location, and where to find his shows. Every Thursday at 19:00 he showcased his skills in front of an audience. He handed his card to his new fan and said "Hey, come and see me later this week. I'll wait for you backstage after the show." He gave her a wink and walked over to the cycles to finish his workout. He heard the girl giggle and walk away, most likely blushing with a smile, Sean assumed.
'Works every time.' he thought to himself.

Alaska stared up at the boarding schedule for the train she was about to take. The minutes to board time seemed like an eternity as she watched the ever changing dates and times shingle their way across the long stretched out panel of the station. She loved trains, and as much as she loved trains she despised the smell of the underground railway. A potent, putrid scent of dead earth and concrete walls filled her nostrils in a way that made her long for something free - something that she couldn't put her finger on.
This was the day that Alaska accepted her new job as a messenger for the compounds across her designated area. Her father put a lot on the line to give her an opportunity to be the representative for himself and his line of work, but this required Alaska to move to another compound. She pulled out a ratted piece of paper and began to unfold it. It was the letter that her dad had written her before she left her compound. She brushed her fingers over her father's looped handwriting, a strong stroke with a brisk urgency.
Alaska took her eyes from the handwriting and meandered her gaze to the black, bold stamp on the top of the envelope.
COMPOUND A - SECTION 4 - ROOM 061
This sounds less than appealing . Her thoughts murmured.
The train pulled up in front of her with a hiss. As the metal doors slid open, Alaska remembered what her father told her about perfecting a skill that she'd been working on since she was 3.
As soon as you reach the compound, drop your things and head to the gun range. Practice makes perfect, pumpkin.
She boarded the train and the metal doors closed once again.
